Private House with Pool

Near Plymouth  2007

A bespoke, elegant 5 bedroom house on a site facing the river Tavy. The site was originally the inside corner of the stone walled farmyard belonging to the medieval Warleigh House.

One theme of the design was the incorporation of a heavy stone ‘back’ wall as a homage to the original farmyard wall that had been in the same position. The rest of the new house backs onto this wall and is built to a greater extent in a more lightweight timber and glass structure.

Another aspect of the design was to create the house as a series of modules. These increase in size as they approach the river, which distracts from the long, thin floor plan dictated by the shape of the site.
